Tiong Bahru - Charming Singapore

When I was taking planes more often than buses (ie. spending more time overseas than in Singapore), I kind of like to read about new food places in Singapore. After i left my job, I had this whole list of stuff to do in Singapore! It is like visiting a new country, one that i did not see much in the last 5.5years!

Last weekend, I went to Tiong Bahru market for some Lor Mee ( for the benefit of those who do not stay in Singapore ,it is a type of noodle)! I had 2 of my wisdom tooth removed last thursday and yet I had this strong craving for Lor Mee! I managed to eat maybe 1/4 portion as chewing was extremely tough with stitches in my mouth! Nevertheless, it was yummy. I will probably do another post on Lor Mee next time!

The charming cafes and shops in Tiong Bahru is good for a lazy brunch or a afternoon walk. The Tiong Bahru market( and the housing flats) there provided a strong contrast for the hippie cafes and shops where old meets new. Uniquely Singapore it is!

If you are walking around the area, be prepared to feel a little lost because the shops are not lined up in a neat row but scattered around. It adds to the charm, doesnt it?

Point to note, I went to 40 hands on a Sunday morning, too crowded and the area is really cramp and small!
I think it is better off going to Drips for some desserts (tarts, maybe?) and Books Actually to grab a book!
I am waiting for my stitches to heal so that i can explore a little more about the area! Will update this post with more info after my next visit!

Till then, please checkout this useful link below for a guide to all the hippie cafe and stores of Tiong Bahru! It includes a visual guide to where the stores are located and web links to the individual stores!
